M:Hello. I'm from CCTV.
Can I ask you some questions?
W:Sure, go ahead.
M:What are you feeling
today?
W:Happy and excited.
You see, everybody is enjoying our National Day as
well as the Mid –Autumn Festival. It's quite special.
M:Yes, China is developing
very rapidly.
W:That's true. In July,
we won its bid for the 2008 Summer Olympics. In August.
We made the 21st University Games the best in its history.
M:You know quite a
lot.
W:Of course. And in
September, news came that our country would become
a member of WTO. Still to come this month is the economic
APEC summit in Shanghai.
M:So many things for us
to be proud of. Besides, I should say our men's football
team has made for the World Cup final in 2002. That's
inspiring news.

B.She wanted to take part in the competition.
C.She wanted to get some information about the competition.
M:It's still terrible.
Citizens all feel worried about their safety since
Tuesday's attack. You see, two planes ploughed into
New York's World Trade Center, destroying two highest
buildings in the city, a third plane seriously damaged
the Pentagon.
W:We have known that.
What we want to know now is how many people were killed.
M:40,000 people could
work in the tower, so lives lost are expected to be
thousands. And at least 202 firefighters were still
missing and 259 service members had not been included.
That's really terrible.
W:We're all very sad at
this. Take care of yourself. If there is anything new,
just telephone us.
On Monday, it's reported that mad cow disease has
been found in Japan. Now Japan is testing about 30
plants that produce compound food for cattle to see
if they are using meat-and-bone meal. This disease
is caused when cattle eat the meal infected. It will
cause cattle to die. Experts said the disease enters
a country through imports of bone dust and meal from
infected cattle. Since January 1, China has stopped
the import of food made with the animals from the European
Union, where the first case of mad cow disease was
reported. Mad cow disease spread to a number of countries
in Europe and caused cattle industries huge losses.
