M:You’re going to make a trip to San Francisco, aren’t you?
W:Yes, but I haven’t got a plane ticket yet. I’m thinking of putting off the trip to next month since it is the busiest time for the airline this month.
M:Fine, thanks. Mrs. Downs. How is your boy, Mike?
W:He is a bit tired. You know, he goes to school at eight o’clock every morning. He doesn’t get home until after four. Then he does his homework after tea. It often takes him a couple of hours to finish it.
M:Poor boy. They work hard at school nowadays, don’t they? Does he like it?
W:You means the school? Yes, he does.
M:Does he go to school by bus?
W:No, he walks. He meets some of his friends at the corner and they go together. But my husband takes him in the car when it rains.

11.What does the man think when the woman says she is not going?
W:Not to it. I’m planning to watch it on television.
M:Why is that? Do you feel too poor this close to the end of the month?
W:Money’s not the problem. I find it easier to follow football on television than in the stadium. When I see the game in person, I feel as if I’m too far away from the action. And I always lost track of the ball.
M:I know just what you mean. Besides, on television the new cameras they use give you super views of all the plays. But there’s always so much excitement. People are cheering and shouting when I’m there in person. And I end up cheering along with everyone else.
W:You’re right there. But I’d like to know exactly what I’m shouting for. And if I can’t even see who has the ball, I can’t get very excited. So I really prefer watching it on television.

14.What’s the weather like in the southern States of America?
W:I want to take a trip. What does the radio say about today’s weather?
M:They say it is sunny from New York to Florida. But showers and storms are happening from the Ohio River all the way south to the southern coast.
W:What’s the weather like in Texas?
M:The worst of the storms by far has appeared in and around Texas. There was a fifteen inches rainfall in a 24-hour period with strong winds and heavy storms.
W:How about the Rocky Mountains district?
M:As much as a foot of snow has fallen with cold temperatures there.
W:What’s the temperature in Arizona?
M:It’s over the 39 degree mark again today under bright, sunny skies.
M:Well, I want to travel to the Rocky Mountains to have a climb in the snow.
Now I’d like to tell you about the rules of the school that you have to obey. This main building has fairly narrow corridors and stairs. So wherever you move inside the building, you must walk on the left at all times. You are not allowed to run in the corridor at any time. And you must be very careful when you’re climbing stairs; you should also keep to the left of course. There are quite strict rules also about movement outside, because we have quite a few narrow walkways; therefore there are areas where you are only allowed to walk in one direction. So there is one way into a building and another way out; and nobody is allowed to turn around in the wrong direction.
We will make sure that you’re not breaking the no-smoking rule. The rules about smoking in the school are strict:no one is permitted to smoke, either in school or on your way to and from school.
