M:Yes, he is. In many ways, he doesn’t have the normal abilities of boys a his age. It’s very difficult for him to read and write in my class, for example. Many 8-year-old boys can do much more than he can. But, of course, he has a special gift.
W:In drawing?
M:Yes. He is always been good at it. Steven can look at any building for about five minutes and then draw it perfectly.
W:Tell me about some of his drawing he’s done.
M:Well, he’s drawn some very famous buildings, like the Doges Palace in Venice and the Kremlin in Moscow. They are wonderfully drawn. Famous artists came to look at his drawings and said Steven is an excellent painter.
W:And he just looks at these buildings for a few minutes and then draws them.
M:That’s right. It’s very strange, isn’t it? He has such a special gift in one thing, but finds other things difficult.
W:Jason, you have a very unusual job. Can you tell me something about it?
M:Yes, well, I’m a street performer. So I bring my music here to the square and dance. I love dancing so it is a great job for me. But I don’t like coming out if it’s too cold or too wet. So I do most my work in spring and summer. Lots of people come in summer. And if they like my dancing, they put money in the hat. Some people give a lot, some, just a few pence.
W:Do you get a lot of money?
M:Some days I do. In summer I can get over 100 a day.
W:100 pounds a day?
M:Yes. Maybe more. But next year I’m going to try in Paris. It’s difficult here with the police sometimes. Like, I don’t like thinking about the police all the time. You know, they are going to tell me I am making too much noise. That kind of thing. People tell me it’s much better in Paris.
W:Well, all the best. I think you’re a great dancer.
M:Thanks.

Good afternoon, and welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one. Today, I’d like to draw your attention to a few of our laws and other matters of importance.
Firstly, about drinking. Here, you may not buy hard drinks or wine if you are under eighteen years of age, nor may your friends buy it for you. That is also against the law.
Secondly, noise. Enjoy yourselves by all means, but, err, please don’t make unnecessary noise, particularly at night. You’re supposed to respect other people who may wish to be quiet.
Thirdly, crossing the road. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country. So be careful and do not take any chances when crossing the road.
My next point is about rubbish. Do not drop off waste paper, cigarette ends, etc., in the street. When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a little bin.
Finally, smoking. You may not buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 18.
I’d like to finish by saying that. If you require any sort of help, you should get in touch with your local station, who will be pleased to help you. Thank you for your attention and enjoy your stay here.
